Running SMV Cadence from SCI servers

• Set the path

  The SMV model checker is installed in /vol/itt/smv of the SC/SCI shared directory. To run the program you need to login to one of these servers and put /vol/itt/smv/bin in your PATH variable, /vol/itt/smv/man in your MANPATH variable, and /vol/itt/smv/lib in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. For example,

  • tcsh terminal
    setenv PATH /vol/itt/smv/bin:$PATH
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /vol/itt/smv/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

  • bash terminal
    export PATH="/vol/itt/smv/bin":$PATH
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/vol/itt/smv/lib"

• Run the program
  • smv : command line model checking. Useful in the absence of X-Windows.

    Example: to verify "thisproperty" from the smv model given in "filename.smv".

    smv -all -check thisproperty filename.smv
    
    

  • vw : the GUI version of SMV. with File viewer (not editor), Counter example simulator and Log tracker.

    Example: open "filename.smv".

    vw filename.smv
    
    

    • Use the properties tab to select a property you want to verify
    • Start verification by going to Prop menu. and select "verify all" or "verify property name".
    • You can use File->Reopen to re-read the source file if it has been changed. "vw" does not have its own editor. Use emacs or any other text editor.
    • The "kill verification" command from the Prop menu is useful to know, incase the verification is taking to much time/memory or your patience - which happens quite often. ("kill verification" is only visible when the verification engine is running).
